10 mile handicap

2nd last Club race of the season, 6 of us set off on a hilly loop round the Horseshoe, run as a virtual handicap as everyone tends to set off when it suits them rather than the usual reverse order, makes working out the handicap results a bit harder and not as much fun chasing those in front down , or being chased down. Wet and windy to start, running into the wind for the first mile or so, the next 2 or 3 miles undulate up, then 3 undulating miles before 3 miles of downish, strangely the down hills were the worst, last mile or so flat with a wee kick up just before the finish, finished 2nd on time, first on handicap a few minutes quicker than last year.

10 Mile Handicap

Club race, wet and windy when we arrived at the start, consensus was to start together to save waiting about in the rain, probably didn't suit me as I like chasing/being chased to give a sense of urgency and raise the effort level. Felt OK for 3 or 4 miles then eased off a bit until about a mile to go when a couple of runners closing in behind spurred me on to a slightly quicker finish. Although wind and rain at the start the weather improved the second half drier and a bit of sun to finish.

10 Mile Handicap

Longest Club race, just over 10 miles of undulating roads round the Horseshoe. 7 of us set off in reverse order, I was in the second last group, started out just behind my partner then after a couple of miles gradually moved past him on the first hill, reeled in the other three over the next 5 miles and managed to hold on for the last 3 miles, about 30 or 40 seconds quicker than last year and just over a minute ahead of the next finisher, good fun for a road race. Check out the results via Milburn Harriers in the links or my feed in the Strava box below.

10 Mile Handicap

Change of scene this weekend, 10th race in this years club GP an undulating 10 mile handicap road race round the Horseshoe, good turn out, 28 runners all in, 22 of us club members. Set off in reverse order to your predicted time, ranging from 2 hours to just over 1 hour. Started too fast as usual settling down with a wee rest after a couple of miles. Catching people who started earlier from two miles, not caught by those behind until about 7 miles when some of the faster runners came past. Finished in 76 minutes  my fastest for a few years.

10 Mile Handicap

19 Runners took part in the annual Milburn Harriers run round the Hoseshoe. Run as a handicap, an undulating 10.4 miles, my time was set at 78 minutes, I hoped for 76. Set off along the main street through the Vale, 1st mile too fast as usual then settled into a steady pace over the next 3 miles with the wind at my back. Just before half way the runner in front came into view, someone to catch at last although I was through Blairquhomrie before I caught him. I managed to pick off another 4 by the finish. Getting caught by a runner from behind with about 2 miles to go got the concentration going again. Finished in 77:16. Good day for running, sunny but not too hot, breezy on the way back.
